Ways to make extra money

Making money is no easy task; we spend our whole lives working to still struggle or to have to prioritise other things. Some people do have it easier than others, though, but no matter your reasoning behind why you want to make some extra money, I have compiled a list of ways to make money on the side.

These will not make you rich by any means; some will get you more than others; I have also written a little bit about each one so you can decide what you want to research more into.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried 99% of these. I have no real way of knowing which sites are legit or not, so tread carefully if you want to do any of these.

  • Selling unneeded items- Selling unwanted or unneeded items can be a real space saver. Have you down your season clear-out and found you have a pile of things you no longer want? Instead of throwing them in the trash, sell them online. You may not make a lot of money, and it can take a while for anyone to buy them, though.
  • Selling old clothing- Selling old clothing is one of the easiest side hustles there are. You can clear out that wardrobe space of the clothing you don't wear or fit any more and get money to buy more clothing if you see fit. There are so many websites to sell your clothing on, but you won't get anywhere near market retail for these products because they are considered second hand even if you never wore them.
  • Babysitting- Babysitting is so fun, and you can make a good amount of money; you won't make an hourly rate, but depending on your area, you can make a bit for your time looking after the kids. This one is a lot of work because no matter the age you are looking after they will need your undivided attention, but this is a good one for some side money or as a teenager to make some money on the side while you are still in school.
  • Mow lawns- Mowing lawns is very much a weather dependent job, and most of the time, you will need your own things. Transport, Trailer and a lawnmower but you can also make a good amount of money for your time.
  • House cleaning- Going in and cleaning someone's house can make you a good amount of money, but if you are like me and hate cleaning houses, you probably won't really want to go into someone else's house and clean their mess up. You also have to make sure it's spotless and up to a good standard.
  • Dog walking- Dog walking not only gets you outside and exercising but gets you to hang around all the cute dogs in your neighbourhood. This is very obviously a job you could only do if you are able to, but the good thing about dog walking is you get to set how much you get paid as well as how often you do it.
  • Dog sitting- Just like dog walking, you can set your own price and decide how often you do this. The downside is you will probably be watching the dog for a while.
  • House sitting- House sitting gets you out of your own house and into a new environment, a lot of people will get friends and family to watch their houses though so the market isn't that big and you will still be in charge of all that cleaning and cooking.
  • Surveys- Taking surveys is just that, taking surveys. There are so many sites out there to do them, but the real kicker is the fact that you can spend hours doing this for no real income or just to be disqualified from the survey.
  • Tutor online- Do you love helping people learn? Tutoring online is just like doing it in person, except you can do everything over messages or video call. The issue comes, though, if you don't know how to help them, it is just a waste of time,e and you might not get paid.
  • Get paid to teach a skill- If you have any kind of skill, you can get paid to teach it to other people. People love to learn new skills and even languages, and people daily are looking for someone or something to help them learn.
  • Fivver- Fivver is actually one of the easier ones to make money on. You can start a fivver for anything, and people around the world are always looking for someone to help them with something they need. The good thing about fivver is you can leave it on in the background while you do homework or even watch tv, and it will show you online so that you can make money. You can also accept however many orders you like or pause your gigs if you need a break.
  • Freelance gigs- Freelance gigs could be for anything and everything, which is really handy if you have the time on your hands, but you are competing with a lot of people, and it can take a long time to even get a gig.
  • Sell photos- Do you like to take photos and want to earn some money off of them? Selling your photos is easy when it comes to you enjoying the process, but it can take a long time to sell any photos and earn money.
  • Secret shopper- If you are in a town or city that has secret shopper needs, then this could be for you. Not everywhere has this, though, which is why I don't know much about it, but a secret shopper, also known as a mystery shopper, is someone who goes to a shop they are told to and evaluates the business and then shares their experience in order to improve customer service. You will need a way to get to the shops and have to spend a decent amount of time in the shop as well, but almost anyone can do this.

What ways do you use to make extra money on the side?
